The Doxa Sub 300 Searambler Silver Lung: Cushion Case Fun

When we had a chance to meet with the folks at DOXA at Baselworld 2018, it was a pleasure to interview Rick Marei, the man who brought back the DOXA brand and ushered in the idea that you could sell watches exclusive online. DOXA divers have an unmistakeable look that sends watch lovers in two directions: love and hate. Call us in the side of really liking the look. It’s a retro feel and no doubt the new reissue Doxa SUB 300 Searambler ‘Silver Lung’ Reissue is a beauty that is limited to 300 pieces.

Although they say your first Doxa should be their classic orange dial, we’ve always been partial to their silver Searambler dial. For those new to the brand, Professional marks orange dial, Sharkhunter marks black dial and Caribbean means blue dial.

The case is cut from a single block of stainless steel and measures 42.5mm in diameter and is 12.4mm thick, the small dial makes it feel much smaller visually than what its dimensions might lead one to believe. The double dome sapphire is cut to resemble an acrylic crystal of yesteryear. It’s one of the coolest features of the watch. Orange accents and a bright yellow Aqua Lung (dive equipment manufacturer) logo make this model an attention grabber.

Inside there’s an ETA 2824, which is COSC-certified. The modern beads-of-rice bracelet with dive extension feels incredible on the wrist and maintains that throwback style. Technically, Doxa watches don’t represent the best value, but, as we all know, “value” as it relates to one’s love of a particular watch style make not matter much at times. If you love Jaques Cousteau and the romance of 1960s diving, then this model would serve as a fitting companion on your wrist.

Also note, these watches wear small because of the small dial and lug-t0-lug dimensions, so consider that if you’re wondering on how it might look on your wrist.

The Searambler ‘Silver Lung’ is now available for preorder from Doxa for $2,190, and if it doesn’t sell out during the pre-oder the price will go up to$2,590 price. So if you are drawn to this look, this special edition would make a nice addition in the dive-watch enthusiast’s collection.
